Born in New York City, Peter Kaplan attended the High School of Music and Art and went on to Carnegie Mellon University for two years, then transferred to The Cooper Union from which he graduated in 1961. As a painting major he studied under Will Barnet and Wolf Kahn.  After graduation, with a new interest in photography, he began by assisting professional photographers in New York City.  Three years later, he opened his own business and, for the next 25 years, he worked as a commercial photographer with focus on the annual report, travel, medical and food areas.  He also developed an interest in portraiture.  His work appreared in periodicals and annual reports for companies both in the United States and abroad. The Futurists in the early part of the 20th Century (Balla, Boccionni and de Chirico), as well as the cubist painters from Braque to Picasso, are the primary influences on his work.  Experiments in collage and panel painting, as well as traditional easel painting, have occupied his time since renewing his painting career. He is currently working again with the photographic process trying to assimilate its characteristics into new paintings. He hopes to be showing these works in 2008.
