My painting is an outgrowth of my work as a photographer.  That is, I use the same methods of observation that I used in the photographic process to envision a painting.  In painting, however, there are more possibilites to use textural effects, as well as different surfaces and tools, to achieve the desired result.  While photography is most often described as reality-based, painting, for me, can be a much more interpretive medium.  While my work is abstract, it does not mean that the original concept was not based on some human form or tangible object.  It is just a starting point.  In other words, my observed impressions are condensed into a less representational form that becomes my painting.

The painters of the Futurist movement of the early part of the 20th century are big influences on my work, as well as artists such as George Inness, Monet, Derain and, of course, Cezanne.  They give me continual inspiration and the energy to move forward.
